I am trying to pull records on N7001A, but not having any luck. Is there a website I can use to get the 337 records?

Wipaire was a bust. They said:

"Hello, our STC covers a retrofit of Wipaire components to the Cessna 172E and later. It is part of the Wipline 2350 float STC. If you have acquired Cessna original parts, you should be able to look into installing via the type certificate (not requiring an STC)."

Well, as far as I understand it, the 1956 model 172 was never type certificated as a float plane. Is that correct?

They listed the 172 on their webpage, so not sure what gives...

So they no longer sell the SA00674CH STC for installing Wipaire 2100 floats on the C-172?

They do, but it has become increasingly difficult to find Cessna parts for the early 172s and almost no one actually floats them.
I really do not believe this would be a difficult field approval to fabricate and install a v brace similar to the 170B and later 172, or to install FADodges 170 brace. I disagree with their comment about a logbook entry. Part 43 App. A lists adding bracing as a major alteration.
If you ever remove the center bolt from a v brace, then rock the wings, you will understand it's purpose as you watch it slide back and forth across the glareshield. The v brace resists sided to side twisting motion. The engine has nothing to do with it in this situation. The lower third point bolts to the thin aluminum of the glare shield. Back in the day flywires were attached from the spar to the upper engine mount bolts.

The V brace is installed at this point, and we're waiting for a call back from The local FSDO. My IA says he'd sign it off, but he thinks it'll be better in the long run to get it field approved so I don't run into any trouble down the road, and he said it'll be easy enough to do.

As for Wipaire, they sell the stc to mate their wipline floats to the 172, but they do not have an stc to do the float kit on a 172. I have been told by 2 people now that all you have to do is install the parts and fill out a 337. I have the parts to do the float kit install on this plane, I've been collecting them for a few years now. I am just finishing both the tailwheel mod, and the io370, and I need to regroup before slamming into another list of projects. I just want to get the V brace in, for the exact reasons stated by cessnut.
