Inertial Reel Shoulder Harnesses

Post by airwolf1980 »

Next on the "to do" list is installing shoulder harnesses. I'm familiar with BAS. I only want inertial reel. Any other info about shoulder harness options would be appreciated, especially about the FAA shoulder harness letter and what it really means. Any scoop on Hooker's new product?

The FAA letter on shoulder harnesses basically means you can install anything you want as long as it doesn't require cutting or welding on structure. The actual harness you use does not have to be PMA, STC'd, TSO'd, field approved or any other type of FAA approval. In fact, it only has to meet automotive quality standards. The only sign off required is that an A&P must make a logbook entry.
The logic which was used to convince them was this:
If the airplane was already certificated to be safe by them without harnesses, then any type of harness at all would be an improvement to safety.
