Door Handles

Well, I know this was covered on the "other" 170 sites, but just for the record here, where can one acquire new door handles.

Most any auto parts store.... The GM door handles work fine. They work even better if you drill and tap the shaft, drill through the center of the handle and screw the handle to the shaft.

Door Handles

Post by N170BP »

Which GM door handle should I look/ask for? (which model/year?).

I need (1) handle too. I called Specialty and they want
$250 for a used one (ouch!).

My C-180 buds say their handles look just like '57 Chevy
handles so I went down to a local classic car parts/restoration
place and bought a pair of reproduction '57 Chev handles.
They did look very much like my 180 friends' door handles,
but the (broached) bore dia. was too big for my 170 door handle
shaft.

Any hints/help would be appreciated....

hot rod handles

look in street rodder or rod action I used ford to 1948 billet handles specialties brand part no. blt-45310 cost me $50.00 a pair but worth it. you will find some nice shapes. the ones I chose have a machined center cut out and curved shape they are brushed finished with two allen screws to hold them on, I filed a small flat area on the shaft, been on for three years they look nice but dont stand out . I am building a 1941 ford pick up and these are the same handles I used on it. questions give me a call. Russ

Bela,I thought we decided that the best fix for the interior door handles was to leave them off!
If ya hafta have interior handles,a small pair of brand-x vice grips sells for less than ten bucks.

Door handles

Well yeah.... At $250 a pop for used handles, I re-affirm my
vote to just leave them off.

The '57 brand-new (reproduction) Chev door handles I bought
were beautiful, and were only $10 bucks each! For $20 bucks,
I could be persuaded to mount a pair of door handles on my
airplane. For $250 (or $500/pair), no dice....

I shouldn't admit this, but we have a friend who is machining up
some light-weight aluminum door handles (the original pot-metal
door handles are darned heavy....). Of course, I would never dream
of mounting a non-approved / non-pma'd door handle on my
airplane! 8^)
