Just wanted to drop by and say hello. Hopefully within the next day or so (as soon as the pre-buy / annual is completed) I'll be a new 170 owner. I just joined the association, and hope to meet up with some of you at Reklaw this year.

I'm not completely new to Cessna taildraggers as I owned a 140A a few planes ago. However, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions in the months to come.

Craig
Welcome to the Association and the Forum. I live between you and Fort Worth just north of 199. Make it a point to attend some of the Texas fly-ins and meet some fellow 170 fanatics.

Welcome aboard Craig. Glad you pulled the trigger on a 170. Probably will be your last plane to buy, you've had the rest now you have the best. :D Met you last year at Reklaw when you had the Citabria. We have a monthly luncheon at different locales in Texas that are pretty fun and a good way top meet some other members. By the way your new plane isn't red is it? I hear most of the red ones in Texas are slow. 8O

Randall,

Actually, it is red (and white). Image

Keep me posted as to when the luncheons are. I've got a lot to learn about these birds, and look forward to meeting some of the group. If we get the annual completed and get a few other things done, I may be at the Sulfur Springs fly-in this coming Saturday.

Craig be sure and fly, with the rest of Texas, to Petit Jean next spring.
I like that paint job! Just the right amount of color to white ratio.
Look forward to meeting you!

Craig, welcome to the 170 Assn & the 170 forum. Sure is a nice looking 170. I live 3 miles from Spinks Apt (FWS) in Crowley. Now I have a good excuse to fly up to Graham and meet you, look at your new purchase and go across the highway to Dairy Queen! Plan to go to Reklaw next month. There should be a number of 170's there.

I gather that Reklaw will be held as usual, the FOURTH weekend of October, 21/22/23. I guess you and Joe will be leaving for the fly in the pevious weekend, Frank?

Frank,
Thanks for the welcome. If you haven't been to Graham in awhile, we've got a fairly decent new BBQ joint right next door to the airport Dairy Queen. It's certainly been taking a fair share of DQ's business away.

Let me know if you're ever headed this way. I'd love to meet some of the 170 crowd. Unless something unforeseen turns up I'll be at Reklaw. This will be my 4th time to make it, and my 3rd different airplane to arrive in.

Well Craig I should have known it was red since most of your other planes had red on them too. 8) That is an awesome looking bird. Since you have been reading through the forums you probably picked up on what I was hinting at. George is a great guy and takes it in stride. Here is the posting for the next luncheon.

SEP 17 *TX HOUSTON AREA FLY IN Tomball, the home of David Wayne Hooks
Airport, will be the next eating adventure. (DWH) N30-03.71; W095-33.17. We will eat at the Aviator’s
Grill on the airport and watch the planes take off and land. Be there by 11:30 a.m. Louise Bickford

Randal, Palestine Texas just brought back a very old memory- way back around 1955 I was flying my Stinson 10A from San Antonio to St.Louis to sell it. I departed Stinson Field around midnight and when near Palestine the engine began missing. I decided to land and circled over the airport - someone kindly turned on the runway lights and I landed and spent the night in the airplane. Next morning I cleaned the offending spark plug and went on my way-
BTW, I paid $560 for that airplane and flew it for over a year and sold it for $500. I was also a car gas user before it was cool (or legal)! I shudder when I think back on the dumb things I did when young-

Craig,

Welcome. We are in Wichita Falls and based at F14, Wichita Valley. Next time you are out killing bugs, give us a call and come on up and say hello.

The first Saturday after Holloween is the annual Wichta Valley "Punkin' Chunkin' " and pot luck. Besides my 170 there is a cherry 140 here and your '55 would fit right in! Look forward to meeting you.

Bruce,

Send me an email on the Punkin Chunkin and your contact info. I haven't flown into the Valley in several years, but would love to come up and visit.
