Cessna aircraft fleet wide experience flap skin, rib and roller damage due to the flap rollers binding. Cessna issued a service bulletin (SEB 95-3) concerning this problem in March, 1995 and it was revised in September 2001. The bulletin called for an inspection of the flap tracks and rollers to be accomplished every 100 hours or twelve months. It also called for the installation of stainless steel washers on the forward rollers to help prevent flap track wear. We recommend wings with Cessna aircraft assigned insure the flaps are inspected for excessive play at the next 100 hr or annual inspection. It if is necessary to install Cessna kit SK 180-44-1

While the wear of the flap track is a concern, the main reason for the washers is to stop wear of the side of the roller into the flap support arm, not the track. I would encourage all B owners to get this done. I have a pretty low time airframe (about 2500 hrs.) and I was surprised at the amount of wear on the arm. It was not near the wear limit but, but if you have a mid to high time airframe, I could see this being an expensive problem if ignored.Green Bean wrote: It also called for the installation of stainless steel washers on the forward rollers to help prevent flap track wear.

As Dave said, the comlete McFarlane kit is $233 and includes a STC servive kit for the inboard aft roller and a copy of the SB. If your rollers are good all you really need are the washers.

Flap Roller
I want to thank everyone for the help. Just wanted to read the SB before I purchased the rollers. The flap tracks could be out of tolerance. If anyone knows the tolerances please let me know.

Re: Flap Roller
The flap track limit is 0.030 over, which is .6025. The flap support arm limit is 0.020 under the original thickness including any clean up to smooth out the circular wear ridge.Jwalker wrote:I want to thank everyone for the help.
