Weighing a 170

Post by Bruce Fenstermacher »

I need to weigh my aircraft and am looking for the proper proceedure for a 170. Looked in the service manual and didn't find anything. Where can I find this info.

In weighing a 170 the datum line is the firewall the rest is standard. The index is the total moment divided by 1000.
The airplane should preferably be empty and no fuel.
Level the airplane using the top door jamb. weigh the mains and the tail. Figure the arm by droping a plumb bob from the firewall, the main axle, and the tail wheel axle. Then measure from the datum back to the axle lines. Multiply the weights by the arms for the moments. add the total moment and move the decimal point three to the left. That will give you your empty weight index. Use the wt. and bal. chart in the POH to see where you are.
