Folding Seats

Post by madpilot »

I have researched some of the past forums on folding seats. I am still stuck between the two. (BAS or Altee) They are almost the same price. I guess what I am looking for is ease of install and which one will give me the most room when folded. I got tired of taking out the back seat when it came time to camp. Just looking for imput.

I have the Atlee Dodge and love them. They are a big project to install, but worth the effort.

I had my covers made by Fine Line Interiors in Anchorage, they have done many sets of them and are experts. The covers are easily removed to allow fold-up storage against the side of the plane.

Atlee seats are good folding seats, but Cessna 206 middle seats are another option for removable rear seats. Kenmore Air Harbor has an STC for their installation in a C-180 or C-185 but will authorize their installation in a C-170 based on their STC since the C-170 rear seat/ baggage compartment areas are identical to the early C-180. I had no trouble obtaining a field approval for installation in my C-170A.

The 206 middle seats are real certified Cessna seats and are very comfortable. There are several different styles available from utility with short backs and no recline to luxury with tall backs, recline, and headrests. If you are concerned about your rear seat passenger's comfort, the 206 middle seats can't be beat.

The 206 middle seats are on seat tracks of their own and remove completely in about 30 seconds each or fold down onto the seat bottom if you don't need to completely remove them.

Fine Line Interiors in Anchorage covered mine also. Doug does beautiful work.

That does look like a very useful conversion, Richard. That would allow only ONE seat to be removed, if necesary. Thanks for sharing.

Larry,

I just installed both left and right Atlee folding seats in the 55B I'm restoring. They are great. I've used them before and installation is not bad. Little tough getting to some of the rail hardware under the floor boards, but worth the effort.

PM me if you have questions,

Does Atlee Dodge have an STC for the 170 now? I was going to buy them several years ago, there was no STC for the 170 at that time and my local FISDO wouldn't approve them.

Thanks to all the imput. I just ordered a pair of Altee's today. There goes my paycheck. I am sure I will like them cause I am tired of taking out that back seat. I will post after I put them in. Thanks to all again.

I just finished my Altee seat install. They do take time to install. I think I put about 10 hours in on the project. I am sure that this will fit my need for what I was looking for. No more taking out the back seat. Now, I just got to cover them with a cushion and back. Thanks again for all the input.
