Just out of curiosity...
What is the highest you have had your 170?
What is the highest landing (and takeoff, presumably)
Mine:
11,500 over the Grand Canyon last summer.
6,609 landed at Grand Canyon National Park (KGCN)

Re: Just out of curiosity...
Snuck mine up to about 10500 with the towering Cumulus clouds coming home from Branson a few years back. I was OK till I looked down.
And no I wasn't (seriously) trying to out climb the towering clouds. I'd gotten that out of my system many many years ago in my Cherokee where I was just as successful (not).
Can't say how high I've landed the 170. Ninety eight percent of my flying has always been landing or departing at a few hundred feet of sea level. To be honest the thin air is one thing that I hope I remember to keep in mind if/when I ever do land at any real elevation.

Re: Just out of curiosity...
Highest altitude for Ole Pokey (C-172TD) was 13,400' between Cody, WY & West Yellowstone, WY (7-6-95). Sure seemed lonely up there for the 10-15 minutes we were there.
Fastest ground speed (so far) was between Grand Prairie, TX (GPM) & Petite Jean State Park, AR (MPJ) at 202 mph (GPS). Don't recall which year that was? Heck of a tailwind, but at 3500 ft----smooth ride. Had 180 mph GPS ground speed last week for about 10 minutes between Grand Prairie, TX (GPM) & Paris, TX (PRX). Most of the trip saw 168-176 mph. Smashed a lot of bugs too

In route to the Kelowna Convention in 2006, the highest altitude obtained in N3415D, with only pilot and 100 lbs of baggage, was short term flight at 14,500 ft. This was in wave lift between Laramie WY and Rawlins, WY while flying V-4 over the northern end of the Medicine Bow Range. With the west wind and wave conditions that day it was difficult to maintain altitude and airspeed. Needless to say, it was a challenging day of flying
Landed at Rawlins, elev 6813 ft, for lunch, fuel, and weather before overnighting at Rock Spring, WY , elev. 6760 ft, due to the strong head winds.
Takeoffs at Rawlins and Rock Springs required carefull leaning on the ground prior to take off roll. The runway at Rock Springs is 10,000 ft long and I remember using quite alot of it. Climb to cruise altitude took a long long time

Highest Altitude, 11,700 in '07 taking pictures of Mt McKinley. What a Fantasic exdperience!!
The Highest would have to be West Yellowstone at 6650 ft, but there is 8400 ft of pavement. On the same trip we dropped into Henrys Lake just to the west of WYS. It is 50 ft lower but only 4500 ft long and grass was so tall the prop was acting like a lawn mower. We got airborne at the same time the runway ended at the lake.

Climbed from Slidell, LA (29' MSL) to 14,500' indicated in 45 minutes, solo, half tanks. Not much wave lift in that part of the world.
Highest airport was Pagosa Springs, CO (7,664 MSL, OAT ~70F=10,000DA) as a stop on the poker run during the 1999 Durango convention. Good thing the takeoff was downhill...

Re: Just out of curiosity...
Some years back, when they had the big fires in Oregon, I was returning home to California from Johnson Creek in Idaho. The smoke was moving southeast
across Nevada and I kept climbing to try to keep some forward visability to cross the Sierras. I was flying a southwest direction. Visability down was OK. I could see the ground just fine directly below me, but forward visability was bad, and I kept climbing to try to stay above the smoke.
I finally ran out of PEX (Power in Excess) for climb and had to give up. I was at 14,550 MSL and that old C-170B had its tongue hanging out about a foot and a half, gasping for breath, and said, in effect, "Dad, it's all over. I just can't do it."
I was about at the west end of the Black Rock Desert near Gerlach, NV, so I spiraled down to about 700 to 1,000 AGL and and had to go into a road following mode. There just aint much for roads in that part of the world and it made for an awful long, and roundabout, ride home.
So, to make a long story short, my record altitude in a C-170B was 14,550 ft., MSL, on an altimeter that the US Bureau of Standards regularly uses to check its instruments.

Highest airport AAX Angle Fire NM. Almost 9000' with almost 9000' of runway. Planned early morning departure and used about 5000' with two pax and 1/2 fuel load.
Highest ever on that same trip but day before. We were enroute from a pit stop in Taos to Angel Fire. Flying the Kit Carson Hiway Gorge(U.S. Hiway 64) we encountered some of the ridge lift so prevalent in that area. And as George related in his encounter with that phenom, we were "nose down" indicating 90K but still going up at over 500fpm. It finally let us out at just over 18000' ! Colder than (h) and pretty bumpy too. Then I had to descend almost 10000' to get into Angel Fire just 15 miles away ! Ever hear of "circle to land" ?
