Replacement axle for 170B
I'm going to have to replace the one axle on my 170B (1955). Lot of confussion on which part to use. Which is the best replacement axle and use my existing Cleveland wheel (600x6)?

There are many experts here and I'm not one of them. In my opinion if you're not running big tires off road ( or airport ) The solid aluminum axles are all you need. The steel ones are much more expensive. I changed to the solid aluminum axles and have 800x6's and use a lot of unimproved strips. I'm comfortable with what I have.

If you need a pair let me know. I need to clean out the hangar.

Doug,
I purchased a steel replacement axle from Aircraft Spruce yestserday. The axles that you have, are they steel? If so, what are you asking for them?

no they are solid aluminum. I put on steel because of all the training I do with crosswinds and asphalt. Solid Aluminum are good for this also, just the steel are better. Heavier though.

By "best" do you mean strongest? If so get the steel Airforms axles PMA'ed for C-170 thru C-185. If you ever put larger tires on or skis you will thank me later.N2984D wrote:I'm going to have to replace the one axle on my 170B (1955). Lot of confussion on which part to use.
