The data that follows is a table of airspeeds horspower and fuel consumption for the C170 for airspeeds up to 160. The data is for sea level.

Fuel Burn Altitude 0
gal/hr HP Mph
3.500 50.0 80.0
4.200 60.0 92.0
4.900 70.0 102
5.600 80.0 109
6.300 90.0 115
7.000 100 120
7.700 110 124
8.400 120 127
9.100 130 129
9.800 140 132
10.15 145 133
10.50 150 134
11.20 160 137

Please explain how you came up with this chart. I think it's a wee bit optimistic--the last time I had my 170 up to 160 mph,I think the fuel burn was more like 12.5 gph! Of course,I was running nitro at the time......

160 Mph on 12 gph

It is a curve fit of published performance data. The values above 145 hp are extrapolations of the data. I was checking to see what the advantages of going to the 220 Franklin and the 180 Lycoming were versus the cost.
