I noticed the primer is real stiff on my 172B.
Almost have to "Two hand it" both in and out.
Is this a normal problem?
What is the cure?? lube applied?? Where?

Re: Primer operation
I give mine a little squirt of WD40 or some other light weight lube every once in a while.
Keeps it moving smoothly.
(yeah, WD40 isn't a lube...but it works)

Re: Primer operation
I use DC4 silicone grease on the plunger O-rings. One application lasts about 25 starts. (Set the fuel valve to 'off' before removing the plunger!)

Re: Primer operation
I use fuel lube or DC4. Sometimes that in conjunction with replacing the O rings lasts a long time. Those O rings go with the same category of the harder than woodpecker lip hoses that a lot of planes have.

If it's stiff in both directions, pulling and pushing....usually replacing the o rings fixes the issue. Also check the primer inlet line is clear but usually it's o rings. I've replaced numerous Cessna primer o rings over the years.

Re: Primer operation
Working slick with a little of Wal Marts lube (similar to WD-40). I put a little on the shaft and went to the firewall and removed the fuel in and out lines. When my buddy pulled back I sprayed in the fuel supply fitting. A couple of in and outs and it was working slick...O rings freed up. No more dragging... I attached the fuel in line and did a couple of out's and in's. It cleaned the lube out and replaced it with clean fuel. BTW I caught all of the lube and fuel in a nice big bundle of paper towels. NO EPA problems in my hanger. Now it is ready to prim'er up the next time I go flying. Thanks for the tips.
