MAybe it's a good excuse to get a batteryMINDer like some have suggested to see if I can bring it back...I'm looking at the Oddyssey as well, I've ask my mechanic if he's up for the paperwork challenge with the FAA.

Gone through 3 Gill batteries in the 6 years owning my 170. I have become an expert at hand proping my plane. I also know the phone number of our class C tower because I have had to call them multiple times instead of using the radio. You remember what all those light signals mean dont you. I am anti new technology in general but over 60 years some advances have established themselves as useful. Got the Odyssey battery, skytech starter, Jasco alternator and installed breakers. I now worry alot less when it is 10 degrees out and I am out in the middle of nowhere. I do miss the adrenaline rush of hand proping a plane by myself, with the parking brakes disabled though ( I am an adrenaline junkie). When it comes to safety I think this is a no brainer. My guess is in the long run it will be cheaper as well, with 2 rebuilt generators, new voltage regulator and one rebuit starter in those 6 years and 900 hours. An added benefit is I lost about 40 pounds doing this. Steve

Which model Odyssey did you get?? I have a stock 48 with a clapped out G25 Gill needing replacement....I assume I would need the new box as well.

Aircraft Spruce part number 11-01945 Odyssey battery for 162.50. You will have to go to F Atlee Dodge for their battery box and stc which will run about 300.00. Some members have been simply been stuffing the Odyssey into the old battery box with foam cushion. The Atlee Dodge box is quite nice. Steve

From the standpoint of economy and reliability, I still think the garden tractor battery, with annual replacement, is the best deal.

Thanks, they are 190.30 in Ontario, Canada...plus tax for a total of 215.04.....One more, add 150.00 in fuel to fly over to pick it up, once there i might as well get lunch for another 10 bucks....the lawn tractor battery is sounding real good about now.....
