is there any alternative to the filler caps other than the $700.00 monarch?

Tom-
I don't understand the question. Is the 170 fuel filler cap different than on the 170A and 170B? The reason I ask is that I have never looked at a straight 170 filler and I'm sure there are several others who might be interested in your question but are not sure what the question is asking.

Yes the '48 caps are different than the A or B model. I wouldn't call the Monarch caps an alternative. It seems the story goes that Monarch was selling questionable caps. Something like buying NAPA caps and relabeling them or they were selling caps from NAPA claiming they were made under PMA, something like that. Can't quite remember the story but I'd be careful before installing them or if I had them installed.

I use canvas covers parked outside over the moat caps so no water can enter the tanks.

So what is the diffference between straight 170 and 170A or B caps?

I believe that the 48 caps may be the same cap used on the 195. They have a well in them so water can collect and then seep into the tanks. Bill K

OK, I know what 195 caps look like, thanks Bill.

So, does anyone know if one of these conversions might work as a replacement?

Not sure if this is still legal, if it ever was, or if they are still available, but try this link.
