Where did you get the led bulb from?
The side firing ones I bought were too fat to pass thru the panel hole.

I ordered them from aircraft spruce. I just ordered one for the same reason that it might not fit. I have not received it yet so I do not know for sure if it will fit. Do you think the sides could be ground down to fit in the hole?
