Tom, if you go with a skull cap, you might want to make sure you use something a little better than the single tinnerman screw that comes with it. Otherwise, you will be buying a new spinner....and possibly touching up the prop. I learned that one the hard way.

A clipnut with a reduced nut would be a much better choice than tinnerman.

Pretty sure mine has a nylock anchor nut on the bracket and a #8 or #10 machine screw.

No chance of walking out.

Yeah, I wish the shop that did mine had used something a little better the first time!

Much better!

Beautiful airplane, Tom. I'm shocked to see what you were able to do for the cash outlay.

Yes with a mod, I turned a 5" circle to fit the prop hub profile a a centering base for the dome.

For further info.

the C-145/0-300-D requires a dash 45 prop bolt, the 0-300-D 6 bolt hub/ crank requires a -42, but with out the 2 prop spinner bulkheads in place, the -42 is too long. You must either build a spacer or use a dash 40 bolt. AN8-40A.

Looks great!
100% better with that new spinner

Tom,
That spinner looks 100% better! My only other comment might be on the cowling latches. If they're as old as the airplane, I believe that I would install secondary latch locks of one kind or another. I had the cowling come open on my '52 one time and found it to be pretty disconcerting. The latches do get warn over time and replacement is EXTREMELY expensive.

Trying to follow this.

First the C-145/0-300-D requires a dash 45 prop bolt. Is the D a typo. Did you mean A.

I see the -42 was with the first spinner which had 2 bulkheads.

Good catch BL. Tom BL is right. If the front cowl latch pops open you will be rebuilding the cowl. I personally don't consider these cowls airworthy without some type of secondary lock on at least the front latch. And that is no matter what condition the latches and springs are in. It is just not worth it.

First of all the C-145 is not a 0-300-D it has a totally different crank flange, that requires a AN8 (half inch) bolt that is a dash 42, which allows for a prop and two spinner bulkheads.( 172 style) When you remove the two bulkheads you need a spacer or shorter bolts.
The C-145-A with the 8 bolt crank flange uses a AN6 (3/8") bolt (-45) because it too uses two spinner bulkheads for the bullet spinner, but the 48 no. When you want the 48 to use the domed cap style spinner on a 0-300-D, you must use AN8-40 bolts or a spacer to take up the difference between the two different props. my prop came off with dash 42 bolts and that pointy spinner, and the -42 had 6 threads showing beyond the nut ( with out the two bulkheads) for me that's too much because they run too close to the case seal.
