It's amazing how much crap they capture from getting fling all over the wing/horizontal stab. Just my opinion, but I think the majority of big tire folks in my area do it for looks instead of functional neccesity.
If Napolean was a pilot, I think he'd have 850x6 tires.

Are you sure Napoleon wasn't a pilot, I'm sure I flew with him or some of his descendants!

Getting back onto the topic,..

I find the first notch helpful when trying to "pop it off " "on skis in deep snow "
I start with 1st notch, then once I get 40 mph , I can find the flap handle
easily, and aggressively pull on 20 degrees and it usually pops out of the
snow, and into ground effect, and away you go.

If I didn't have the first notch , it would be considerably more difficult
to reach the flap handle. ( when it is lying on the floor ( ( tunnel )

The same technique is used on floats, but I do not have floats,
and I am NOT claiming ownership, or originator of this technique.

Thanks John, I have been doing a similar thing, but without the 10 notch I've just allowed the flaps to blow up to trail after adding takeoff power. Then, at the desired time/speed, reaching down to grab any portion of the handle (no need to hunt for the end of the handle up under the panel, since it's floating) and pulling enuf flap to get into ground effect. Pretty good acceleration with this method, albeit a little busy after taking the runway and stoking power.

George - thanks much for the link to the drawing. Just what I need for the mod, if I decide to do it.
