This is the kind/type of seal I was talking about earlier, I'm gonna give it a shot.....

I find that a good glarshield keeps the instrument lights from reflecting off the windshield. Mine has lights on the bottom forward edge the lights the panel nicely without having to light individual instruments. I won this one at my first ever 170 convention in 1985. It was built and STC'd by Bob Schroers, a member in Washington state who is no longer around.

I have the same glare shield, it has served well. It also adds a finishing touch to the appearance of the instrument panel.

I looked on the bulbtown website for the GE 1826 bulbs but could not find them. Any help on how you located them on the site?

Thanks a bunch. I found it too, and also at some other vendors. But that bulb is shown as an 18volt bulb. The Cessna IPC shows 13volt. Any thoughts on using an 18volt bulb instead of a 13volt bulb. Also, when I removed my old bulbs as I was cleaning the ground on all sockets, It looked like someone had painted the barrel of the glass red and left the dome or tip of the glass clear. Were yours that way too?

18 volts is fine and is what a 1826 bulb is. There is no such thing as a 13v 1826. The 13v has to be a miss print. BTW it is very common to use a lamp rated for a few volts over what the circuit is. An 1826R would be painted from the factory. Probably can't find any of them today.

Ryan, I recommend a 25 watt, 100 ohm rheostat.

Those are pretty difficult to find. 25W rheostats are not, but the 100ohm is. 5ohm, or 5000ohm are common. I've looked for the original equipment after having read the thread you linked to, but so far, no such luck. It looks like the rheostat that's in the airplane isn't completely dead, but I'd like to replace it on principle as it will be the only thing left in the system that's not replaced as I am replacing all the sockets and wiring.

I called Cessna and gave them the numbers from the Cessna 170 IPC. They have the rheostat. But it is $75.00.

This is a little off topic but related. What's the latest thinking about whether red should still be used for instrument/cockpit lighting? I've heard that it does not preserve night vision as much as originally thought. I've never liked the fact that it washes out anything written in red.
