Ron had an Aeromatic, no hydraulics required.

So it took until 2016 to complete but the last (P51) installment is on the above website now.

So if the O-300 was never on the TCDS, where did it come from? Is it safe to say they are not original to the 170? Sounds like Cessna did not manufacture any 170's with the O-300B. They must have been transplanted from another aircraft.

Nippaero. The O-300B came out of the 172. The engine could be installed into the 170 with a field approval. Continental allowed the engine too be converted to other models also, but they issued a service letter to help the customer out, they approve but they provided a warranty disclaimer for parts in 1974.

The O-300A is on the TCDS under optional engines (also a Franklin 6A4-165-B3 engine). The O-300B-D are not mentioned.

I did not say the 0-300 was never on the TCDS, it is. The 0-300-B is not. And it is not clear whether Cessna ever delivered a 170 with a 0-300-A or B. Continental changed from horsepower names to cubic inch names in the '55-'56 time frame. So it is entirely possible, in fact I think it has been proven that the last 170s off the line had 0-300-A models installed. What we have not confirmed is did any have the 0-300-B installed.

Bruce, if I remember correctly, there was a small serial number lot that was produced for the 170. When I get home, I will update this. I dont remember what production numbers they were but I thought there was some.

Hi Bruce. I meant to say O-300-B. I should have clarified.
I have a C-145-H2 in my plane. I have the opportunity to purchase a good O-300-B locally and my plan was to overhaul the O-300 and swap it into my plane. That way I could continue to fly while overhauling the other motor.
I am not sure if it would be better to have the original C-145 motor in the plane since it was original to the plane. Or if it even matters. Seems like there are a lot of 170's out there with the O-300-B. I just found another one at my local airport this morning.

The vertical lines in the right margin indicate the changes. Looks like the only change was that the type certificate was transferred from Cessna to its parent Textron. Also the alcoholic warning on the first page was put into a box, but that's not substantive.

All changes to the individual pages are listed in the boxs at the bottom of page 1. Each number in those boxes indicate the revision that page was revised although it does not say what the change was. Sometimes it is something as simple as a spelling change.

Thanks Doug. I guess I could have been a little more clear. There are changes in the page breaks, some bolding of some headings, addition of continuation headings at the top of some pages, and minor formatting/spacing changes here and there (even on pages not indicated in the box at the bottom of page one), resulting in the TCDS going an extra page and a half from the previous revision (mostly caused by the odd page brakes). But I didn't see any real changes except the transfer to Textron on the first page. If I missed something though, please chime in.

Does the "B" model have the option to use a vacuum pump as an accessory?
