I don't think there is a way to tell other then checking where the routing on the flaps and tanks are from what I've read?c170b53 wrote:Well how would you know which wing you have on your plane ? Have you ever seen a data plate anywhere or on anything (Cessna) other than the one on the rear door post?
What about your ailerons ? Other than balance weight differences, they pretty much are all the same between many models. Do you know whether your plane has the originals? Flaps?

Having a bird dog flap system on a 170 would be interesting .wow 60 deg of flap ... great speed brakes . Which brings me to this, in a northern town of Alaska, there was a 170A with 3 ins of extra flap surface riveted on the trailing edge . The trailing edge of the flap had been split and this flat plate had been riveted in place They had painted the extra Matt black [why????] . I was admiring the handy work When a voice said “like what you see”. He walked out of the mist. “err interesting “ , I replied. He then went on about when he deployed them the aircraft really stood on its nose . Your not FAA are you? Was the next question. Nah, just a interested Aussie , I replied . It was time to leave .

What is the approximate weight of one wing without flight control surfaces?

I checked and didn't see them, although I did see the one in Manitoba. Trucking prices to Fairbanks aren't as obscene as I pictured.brian.olson wrote:There is a listing on Barnstormers for two 170B wings for sale.

Don’t forget, You’ll have to protect them, which will add to the Cost. Truckers can sometimes be rough on contents and the road tough on truckers.

Can the L-19 wings be installed, or what other wings are compatible with a 170B? Up in Alaska and cringing at shipping charges.
Before you buy some unknown wings, check with Gray Morris at Birchwood, 907-688-3900, about rebuilding your damaged wing. Gray is a craftsman who does beautiful work with the proper jigs.

I was under the assumption that repair of wings is typically more expensive then just outright buying another set.hilltop170 wrote:alaskan9974 wrote:Had some damage to one side wing, short story it needs replacement, rest of the plane is ok.

Could be, I don't know. Gray has been doing this a long time. Check with him. He might be able to give you a ballpark estimate if you send him some pictures. At least you know your wings, buying used ones could be a pig-in-a-poke. And you mention only one needs repair. Plus much less transportation costs. If I can help any way, let me know. I don't know if Gray is tech-savvy or not. I'll be glad to get pictures to him if that's an issue. I live 5 miles from Birchwood.

Re: Where to find 170b wings?
Anyone have a recent 2015+ copy of a 337 on 175 wings on a 170b? I found the copy in the tech archive plus one from 2014? Just seeing if there is anything more recent I can combine with a digital fuel gauge.
