Does the 180 hp STC that Harry Dickler issues have stiffeners added to the firewall?

At least he'll talk to ya-- try calling Bob Williams (the avcon STC holder)--I think you have to pay him just to get him to answer the phone! :(

No Eric, payment and his answering the phone do not correlate. You just have to be lucky (unlucky?) to catch him. Please people beware of this guy, or be prepared for much frustration. Three months and $125 to get a simple STC reissue with my serial number after I bought the used FWF. Glad that's behind me. I'd never try to deal with this guy unless I absolutely had to.

Firewall

Hi Jb,

I recently started a rebuild/restoration/fabrication of a 52 s/n 20446. The firewall I recieved when I bought the project was the old alclad steel complete with hammered out wrinkles at the bottom. In talking to Duane Ayre at Cessna he told me that the firewall is not structural and didn't see why I couldn't build my own out of flat stainless. Of course to put it in writing would cost about $600.
My next step was to talk to my PMI out of PHX. I submitted my plan to replace the .017 alclad steel with a .029 flat stainless suported with some 5/8 extruded bulb angle and he approved the field approval. He has been a great guy to work with. It will be a bit heavier but for the price I'll live with it. BW

Can I get a copy of the field approval or get your phone number to ask more questions. It sounds like you have had the most luck.

I can't wait to talk to you.

You can email me your number if you don't want to post it: Exploreit2@aol.com

Does anyone have a 337, STC, field approval, etc. for installing a Stainless Steel Firewall in a Cessna 170. I need a copy of it BAD and it would be nice if TIC170A could get a copy of it as well to help out the next person that might need it.
