This could be on a Lycoming. Continentals, C-145 and 0-300 at least don't use nylon lock nuts on the back of the prop flange. And if so I'd be checking other sources for the proper torque.

Not so, Bruce. My EM prop is held on with Nylock nuts.

So your bushing, propeller nut is a nylock?

Mine aren't that I recall and we are suppose to be using the same no matter 8 or 6 bolt crank according to the IPC. Is the IPC wrong?

Mine is also held on with Nylock nuts. No threaded bushings. Continental O-300C with McCaulley 1A175/SFC 8043

81D also had nylock nuts with an O-300-D and EM prop.

Another error in the IPC.

Or, we're all illegal.

So if the crank was not an original to the model, there's a possibility that that there's nuts ( C-D shafts).

McCauley propellers should be installed in accordance with the McCauley Service Manual 730720, which is FAA-DOT approved.
Page 4-39, Fig 4-24 of that manual applies. It shows a flat washer and self-locking nut for the installation of the 1C172 (EM) propellers. Page 4-39 lists the specific parts.
TCM's manual is an ENGINE manual.
The Cessna IPC is not an approved manual...it is a parts-ordering CATALOG.
McCauley Assy.pdf
<Edit> BTW, the EM series was produced for the six bolt prop flange (Usually referred to as the ARP 502 Type I flange)
This is different in several respects to the earlier crank/prop flange. The McCauley installation instructs to use the following
torque on prop bolts:
3/8 bolt = 30-25 ft lbs
7/16 bolt = 45-40 ft lbs
1/2 bolt = 65-55 ft lbs.
I don't know why they list them in decreasing order.
Hope this helps. (BTW, Richard D Miller... if you join our Assoc'n you will have access to our MX Library, where you would find all this info on the prop, as well as the fine details of blade length, thickness/width @ each station, etc. Pretty good deal, heh?)

Parts of that McCauley Service Manual 730720 have been cited in a number of threads, but a full copy does not appear to be in the MX Library. You mind uploading a full copy to the library in the Propeller Area section? I've tried to find a copy on the internet to download, but no luck.

The full copy is the size of an Encyclopedia (much to large to scan and post) and contains the vast majority of info not pertinent to our applications. Most of the info is directed toward repair stations and describes overhaul data, methods, tooling, inspection, service bulletins, etc.. It is also copyrighted. It may be purchased from McCauley, but the price was $375 in 2010. If you need particular info, you may email me. The pertinent info to our props is in the MX Library.

Understood. Thanks anyway George.

Should prop bolt threads be lubricated with anything for proper torque? When I got my new bolts from Sabre for my Lycoming they had paraffin wax on the threads.

The wax was for thread protection. Torque values should be clean, dry threads unless otherwise stipulated.
