Thank you all for the quick replies. I hadn't even thought about the ashtray option!
Glad to be a member!

i had mine installed on the floor..in the middle between the two front seats..was easy to reach from the front without tearing up the back at all.It might not be as fancy as the ashtray...but for the few times i have a rear seat passenger it works fine.

Talk about timing, I'm just going thru installing rear headset jacks in the rear ashtrays.
It only took a couple of hours to fab up two aluminum inserts that hold the headset jacks. I don't have any dimensions, I just eyeballed it.
All I did to the ash tray itself was to drill a 3/8" hole in the middle of the back side of the ash tray for the wires to go thru a grommet.
With the inserts installed into the ash trays and the ash trays installed into the outer housings, I drilled thru the two mounting holes on the back side of the outer housing, after removing the tinnerman nuts, thru the back of the ash tray and thru the back of the aluminum jack inserts.
The jack inserts fit tightly into the ash trays and long mounting screws not only hold the housing to the side of the plane but trap the inserts firmly in the ash trays when pulling the plugs out.
It's a tight fit but the jacks go in without grounding out on anything.
To disassemble, just remove the two mounting screws and the whole thing comes apart.
