Here's the response I got from Hartwig. Note that in his email he is talking about the Monarch Premium Caps which are not the same as the Classic caps that were available for the 120/140/170 series that we were discussing above. It appears that they are only pursuing the Premium ones, hence the radical price increase...

Hi! Doug,

In responds to your email above. At this time we do not have the Monarch STC'd Premium Caps for the 170. We're in the process of getting the STC for everything from the 150 to the 175.

The estimated cost for the replacement STC'd Monarch cap conversion will be $ 495.00 US per set (two caps and necks).

If you would like to be put on the waiting list. Email us back with the Make & Model of your aircraft. The Serial number and Date your aircraft was built. Also the tail number of your aircraft. What we will do is as soon as we have the STC we will contact everyone on the waiting list to see if they are still interested in receiving the new caps before we advertise them to the general public.

Have a nice day!

Premium Fuel Caps

Post by 170C »

Any idea what makes the "premium" caps more expensive than the non premium ones that were once available? That's a lot of $$, however it might be worth it to get rid of the moat around our existing fuel caps.

I should point out that when the original owner of Monarch died the business was sold to Hartwig. They had nothing to do with the Classic cap mess and as far as I know never sold any.

There are also two Hartwigs in the aircraft fuel cell business. It doesn't mean much to us as 170 owners, but when I had a 206, I got different prices and different promises from both sides of this (perhaps dysfunctional) family. The Hartwigs in WI do all their work in the US. The Hartwigs in this thread do their business in Canada. (Note that his "U.S. Repair" office is not in the US.)
I used both shops for fuel cell repair, and had better product and service from the WI side of the family. ( "Our owner, Carl E. Hartwig ... operates one and only one FAA Repair Station in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Don't be confused, there are several repair companies with very similar names. .... The repair company that bears the family name is actually a Canadian repair shop owned by Carl's brother."

Of course, if as 170 owners, all we're interested in is fuel cap/riser issues...it's a no brainer.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

Gee, that's only THREE times what the original owner of Monarch caps had them priced at!!! What a rip off.
