plus 43.D says
(3) Internal engine-for cylinder compression and for metal particles or foreign matter on screens and sump drain plugs. If there is weak cylinder compression, for improper internal condition and improper internal tolerances.
I think the FAA could make a pretty good case for doing a compression check, and if you are going to do the check, you are reqired to do it in the way that the manufacturer wants you to.
