mine is a garmin 96
what's the diff between this and the 95?
and i'm still on the 1st set of batteries
after 9hrs and have 3 bars indicated

You have a newer generation GPS.
The 95XL was an early 90s model aviation GPS long out of production. Garmin might have had a 95 model which wasn't aviation way back then but I couldn't find it on the Garmin site.
In the early years Garmin back tracked a little with their names. The 95XL was one of the earliest aviation GPS models. They then came out with the GPS195 then the GPS90 and later the GPS92. At the same time they had non-aviation models with similar names like the GPS89 which was a non-aviation version of the GPS90.
I think lately they've kept the numbers straight within a name version so a 496 is a more featured or later version than a 396 or 495. Though the 495 was introduced after the 496. Got it.
