Be Careful!!!

I never thought I would have a mag drop out completely until two weeks ago when I did mag check after a 2.5 hr. flight. My left mag dropped off completely. I took it to the shop. We took it apart and found that a rivet holding one side of the points was loose. We replaced the points, tested the mag and re-installed. It didn't work after installation. We pulled it out again, pulled the mag apart, tested it and put it back together, installing it again. It didn't work again. We did this 3 or 4 times before we were able to figure out that the problem was the condenser wire connection was bent and grounding on the mag case. We fixed that and re-installed and no more problems. This was a set of new slick mags from Sep. 02, who would have thought. :o

Currently working with my mechanic to learn the inner workings of my mags too. Have the left mag off and apart, flying with a friends spare, and have found engine oil - bad seal - and stiff impulse coupling. Running Bendix S6LN-21's. Just learning how to read the Bendix manuals and parts lists has been an undertaking, there are a lot of different Bendix mags. When I put the spare on a couple of weeks ago, the timing was a very enjoyable learning experience. It is very straightforeward and logical. In the process of trying to indentify Spruce's part numbers with the Bendix part numbers, etc that would work with my 10-51365-39 serial number A 127665 mags.
