I found a better picture. Don't you think it's beautiful?

Yes. In it's own way it is very beautiful. The guy who owns this one is a really friendly fellow. I have spoken with him a couple of times. This one was down in New Mexico or Arizona for a while and was just brought up to Alaska a couple of years ago. Thanks.

That was an ugly airplane when they built it. That 680 Lycoming and the old AT-10 cowling only made it worse. If you go to the trouble to make the comparison, there is a good bit of the old Stinson O-49/L-1 Vigilant in that design, and they both came from the same company at the start.

bluEldr,...I don't think I"ve ever seen you beat around the bush quite so much as you have in this thread....

The reason that thing is such a lousy airplane is clearly because it is GREEN!

I mean....LOOK at it! They had to paint a RED RING around the cowling just to get it to move FORWARD! when they weren't towing it!

Ok. I maybe I'll just give mine away to the Salvation Army. Mine is a nice yellow color. A lady friend who grew up in the military, where there are a lot of boring looking green things around all the time, dubbed my plane with the name "Happy Yellow".....there is actually room to take a nap in the back.

The Stinson L-1 was a great looking airplane.

The L-1 was a lot better looking and flew a helluva lot better than the L-13.

Pieter, you've got to keep in mind that many of us here formed long-standing friendships based upon tall-tales, lies, and other good-natured threats and insults. It's almost always intended in good fun, and the best defense is usually to out-tale the teller.

so what makes the L-13 even uglier is when one flips one up on it's nose because of the big radial engine weight up front.
