Thanks Arayana, I was going for a clean looking, light weight VFR panel. I saved about 17lbs by removing the old original artificial horizon, DG, suction gauge, vacuum regulator, lines, both venturis, clock, and old turn and slip.

Man I really like the way that panel is set up.
So, for someone like me who has little interest in airport to airport, weather updates, flight plans, etc, which of the iPad apps has the best maps. Things like terrain, and is there a way to zoom in and see if the creek your following has a name? Not just the average vfr sectional type map but one with detail. Is there such a thing?

Foreflight has a great terrain feature called hazard advisor which can be turned on or off. I have mine set so anything from 50 feet below my altitude or above it will be red and anything from 300ft below me to 50ft will be yellow. You have the option to change these numbers. The map being displayed can be set on sectional, WAC, satellite, IFR low or high, street, terrain, or world map. On the "street map" it actually has contour lines for terrain and shows roads and bodies of water. Some small creeks might have a name and some other ones might not show the name.

Thanks Rob, I have been flying so long with my 295 for navigation when needed and my 60csx for terrain and information. Been studying the big players but cant really get a grasp on the mapping features of them. So with that info, Foreflight will be what I try first.
Did i mention I really like your panel layout?!

One more question for the foreflight users, is if you subscribe and have it on your iPad, can you use the same account on your phone without paying for 2?

Yes, I think you can put it on three devices. I did find that it took so much memory on my iPhone that I couldn't download some other things so I took it off. I have it on two ipads though.

From the Firelight FAQ: "The 1-Pilot subscription allows you to use ForeFlight Mobile on 1-iPad, 1-iPhone, and 1-iPod Touch, simultaneously. A second iPad is allowed as a backup device (total 2-iPads). The "2-iPads" can be any mix of the iPad Mini or the full-size iPad. All devices are to be used by the same pilot."
I had it on my iPad Mini and my iPhone but took it off the iPhone because it isn't as user friendly. I also have it installed on another full-sized iPad as a backup.

I'd like to endorse a relatively new line of mounting devices from MyGoFlight
http://www.mygoflight.com/aviation/ I've used the RAM products in the past, and I have to say I like the MyGoFlight solution much better. They start with a back that snaps around the iPad or iPad Mini, that can be used directly as a kneeboard with a supplied elastic/Velcro strap. But, the genius is that in the middle of this back is a recessed thimble that fits and latches into a receiver in their adjustable arm system. This arm can be attached to a single or dual suction cup, or a variety of yoke mounts. Once attached, a single nut is loosened to allow positioning the mount in an almost infinite variety of angles/positions. Then the single nut is tightened, holding everything more firmly than the RAM mounts hard rubber ball allows. Finally, the socket/thimble system allows effortless rotation of the device between landscape and portrait positions. And, on top of all this, their customer service is second to none. I didn't like the yoke mount, so they immediately sent me an entire different mount system, and simply requested I send back the one I didn't wish to keep. Pictures follow:

Karl, thanks for posting this data. I can see where this system could be useful although I wonder with the two piece arms if there might be excessive vibration/shaking? Always good to see vrs options. They are sure proud of their products

Yes, their prices do reflect "pride in their product." But, in my humble opinion, it is worth it. I've used the RAM mounts before, and continue to do so in an airline cockpit. The MyGoFlight arm is so much more versatile in its positioning, and once locked it stays put. (Each joint has serrations so when locked it doesn't slip) Their suction cup design is also vastly superior. It has a knob you push in on to forcefully expel the air from under the suction cup. Then a lever is operated that pulls on the suction cup and develops a much stronger attachment. Finally, the ability to easily rotate between landscape and portrait is super convenient. I've now flown two very long trips, and countless local flights using this system. It has not once dropped from the window on its own. If I leave 33C out in the sun, I take it down myself to prevent warping the acrylic, but otherwise it stays where I put it. I have to say it again - their design is simply far better and more versatile than anything I have seen from any other manufacturer!

The folks at MyGoFlight continue to innovate. They now have a Sport Mount Flex Clip version of their articulated arm, that mounts to a receptacle that can be screwed to a flat surface.
http://www.mygoflight.com/sport-mount-f ... p/?aopa109 They also have cradles that mount cell phones, and other tablets. Watch the video down the page a ways to see it in action.
