Rudder Attachment Bolts

Like the original posters, it’s a 48. S/N 18573, sorry didn’t include that, just replied to the first post. I will post the part number later.

AS you search for the parts you request…you’ll see why it’s difficult to assist…. as you request a lower rudder “bearing” (Fafnir SIK-5…??) and “bushing”…??? huh..??? (pg 34, fig 13, item 14.?)

The lowest one of the 3 bearings is pn A-325-1 or A325-1 as in this post which might help you.

In that post it is stated as follows:
"The original bearing PN A325-1 (superceded to S1003-11A) lists for $10.70"

This is for the benefit of Gobrien with the rudder hitting the vertical fin at the top. When the situation you have with the interference of rudder mass balance weight touching the fin is a indication that this rudder was fitted to a aircraft that been on its back. Rudders go from one aircraft to another over the years . I also would be measuring the clearance of the rudder to the vertical fin near the hinge points . I would push the rudder over until it hit the stops and measure the gap between the trailing edge of the fin and the leading edge of the rudder . I would get this dimension correct and make sure there isn’t any binding on rudder movement and check the clearance gap between rudder and fin at the top. If it still interferes it will be a case of deriviting the forward section of the rudder and repositioning .it. I would make up a right angle jig and attach the parts to that before riveting back together .

I rebuilt the rudder, made new sides for the top section which contains the mass and squared it off. I found apprentice marks all up in there, it had been previously rebuilt badly.

It is reinstalled, moves freely without any binding. The cables are evenly stressed and the pedals are even and at the appropriate distance from the firewall.

It appears the vertical was once-equipped with a VOR “whiskers” type antenna. How’d you scratch your left thumb?…opening a congratulatory beer?
