Fly your 170 up to Alaska some time and bring all your supporting data. I bet we could get an approval for the 175 wings while you're there. Let me know and I'll help you. We might even find some wings you could trade out and fly home on the new ones.

It now makes sense

After talking to a local mechanic here, it appears that the problem I was so fervently looking for is in fact the way the tailwheel is mounted on the spring. It appears (and makes sense) that the tailwheel is mounted at a positive 20 degree angle. Thus when taxiing, you are fighting the very mount that hoilding the tailwheel. If that makes sense. The swiveled portion of the tailwheel should be level with the ground. Anyway, a quick re-work of the springs and we should have it.

NOT correct, cv580! Do NOT mess with those springs. You'll deform and weaken them. The clutch/turntable should NOT be level.
