It would be nice to somehow roll the outer edge of that panel to dress it off some.

I disagree. The shape dresses it up nicely. Paint and instruments will polish it off.

Either way, it will look very nice.
I gave a lot of thought about going this route as well. But I personally like the dress cover too much to give it up.

I use the false panel to hide/position GOR (Grain of Rice) instrument lighting.
