Is it anyone's contention the long tail pipes with the additional structural support at the outlet end of the pipes decreases structural integrity/life of the system in relation to the stock system, especially since the opposite ends of the exhaust system are attached to supports with relative motion between them?

Has anyone with experience with either Benham or Bartone pipes seen any higher incidence of exhaust system problems due to the longer pipes?

Richard, I have had the Barton's on my engine for 700+ hours and have not had any problems as a result of their usage. Initially I noticed a slight change in the sound from inside the cabin. I have had them so long now that I can't say whether the noise level is more or less. Likely less. It may make some minor change in sound to someone on the ground as compared to the stock, short stacks. Sure keeps the exhaust stains off of the cowling.

PC220024.JPG[/attachment] Not realy good pics, but you get the idea. The stand off's are stainless "U" channels bolted to the firewall then the "tire" straps bolted to it and a stainless clamp holder to the exhaust tube.
The mount for the gascolator is as it appears, a stainless "U" Chanel riveted to the firewall and the gascolator bolted to it.
Twenty some years and no problems.

OK, so it looks like two operators with many years of experience have had no exhaust problems associated with Bartone pipes. Anyone running the Benham pipes had any problems?

Benham have been on my plane for I'm guessing 10+ years. No problems.

Richard, I've had Benham's pipes on for many years and no problem. They do not attach the same as Bartone's. There is a u-channel that attaches to the motor mount with adel clamps and the pipes are hung from that. Sorry no pictures. The only thing that the feds wanted me to do different was a wide area washer under the u-channel. This was one of John's first set of pipes and with the log books not here I don't recall when but at least 12-15 years. However, I don't fly as much as you but I can not forsee any problems. If there is any flex the pipes will move the adel calmps to compensate for that. I assume he has not changed the hanger assembly. Ron

The set that Benham had on his last airplane (seen at Fredricksburg fly-in around 2002)were suspended from the engine-mount-crossbar by common automotive muffler hangers. (Piece of rubber-strap and metal clamp-ends.) Any movement of the engine would apparently be handled by the hangers.

When I have more spare time and money I hope to develop a system similar to the 205/206/210 system for our airplanes.
