I rode the bike up to Mena last week to see the project and review some details of the paint job with painter Darrell Mos. I went to Mountain Airframe first and rode across the field with Del and was surprised to see a friend from home who was dropping off his turbo Comanche for some minor sheet metal repairs and new paint. When we got to the paint shop I thought Darrell had taken my request to keep the classic look a little too seriously. Anybody ever see a "woody" airplane?

It's a shame you guys (friend from home) didn't know about the other...you could've coordinated the trip back/forth. That's happens waay to often.

Are you sure you don't want that cowl lower lip painted?

No, I'm not sure! The original (53 era) pictures don't appear to be painted, however the most original(Current) 53 I have pictures of, which we used extensively (Thanks George) to get that curve on the side right has the lip painted. I figure it would be the easiest thing to change if we don't like the way it comes out.

I'd suggest you paint it same as lower cowl. I think otherwise it'll stand out. (I'm just trying to imagine it in a different color than the base color, whatever you choose that to be.)

The other reason to paint with the trim color is oil leaks won't show up as bad on it as the light gray base. Hopefully it won 't leak as much it did twenty something years ago but it is a Contiental!

Is your painter edge laying the colors...meaning that the base color will not be under the trim color and that both colors will be on the primer itself?

Looks good!!

Paul, just remember getting back into the cockpit is like riding a bicycle, you never really forget how to do it, and you have a leg up on that since you ride those crouch rockets

Since you are getting all this VALUABLE advise, paint that belly a dark maroon color and you won't see those exhaust and oil stains, as if any Continental ever leaked

Shouldn't wheel pants be level in flight and not on the ground?
