Climb prop

So my 1A/175DM8042 prop is on its way (6-8 weeks delivery) and I'm still struggling with this spinner. I am trying to use the one from Wag Aero, as its considerably cheaper than Univair, however they say it can only be used with a prop extension. When I questioned them about it they say that its for a specific installation that uses a prop extension and that there is a spacer on the prop and not a seperate part that can be bought. They also say that it works for a McCauley DM prop with an 8-hole mount, but the note about the prop extension has me puzzled.

Part of me believes that this spinner will work with my new prop, but I'm hoping someone could confirm this before I order it due to the cost of having to return it from Canada if it doesn't fit. I think my only hope of getting direction on this will come from this website, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

A Thousdand Dollars for a spinner

At least the prop has the excuse of needing to be forged. A spinner needs as much technology to make as a salad bowl.

Just got off the phone with McCauley. Still puzzled, Wag Aero says their spinner will work with the DM prop that has a spacer, however McCauley says that the DM prop does not have a spacer and that the designation would be different if it did.

Aryana, I'm curious to know what the part number of the Wag Aero spinner assembly that you used was?

Ok, it took a while but I finally have the new prop installed. Just for the record the spinner from Wag Aero fits and they can provide all the paper work (for additional $$) to make it legal. As for the prop I don't have any hard numbers on its performance, but everything said about the STC is true (ie: it accelerates much faster, it climbs much better, you get off the ground much quicker, it rev's allot higher, and you loose about 10MPH in speed).

I changed my prop so I could fly out of this 1320 grass strip near my house thats at 2000ASL, which I wouldn't have had the go-nads to do with my old prop, and after brushing up on my STOL's I moved my plane to the new strip without a problem. All in it was worth the money and I'm very happy with the performance... thanks everyone and this great website for being a great source of reliable information!

I'm not sure why Wag-Aero says that its spinner requires a spacer, but its not true. As far as I can tell its a direct replacement for the Cessna part.

Thanks for this old thread. I need a backplate... and the Wag Aero solution looks like it has the new dome for considerably cheaper than anything else - so we're going for it. I had big questions about the spacer as well. Will let you know how it turns out as we will not do the replacement until annual in October.

The Wag Aero Spinner fit beautifully and does NOT require any prop extension.
Its a good quality aluminum and polishes very nicely.

I too am considering ordering the 8042 (or 43) McCauley Prop.

I have an "A" model, and see the Wag Aero spinner is for a "B" model. Does the A model need a different spinner? Oh and I have the C-145-2H motor.
