Silver French Gray interior paint match

This weekend I removed the fabric and cushioning from the pilot seat of my '49 170A. It had a very nice patch of original Silver French Gray paint on it. Rather than just paint the frame black I went to the local ACE Hardware store to look over extensive the KRYLON and Rustoleum spray bomb collection. With seat frame in hand I was just about to settle for black when I saw it. KRYLON Castle Rock.

I thought this might be very close but perhaps a shade off. But after painting most but not all of the seat frame I'm hear to tell you as far as I'm concerned it is a drop dead match.

I've eyeballed my hat shelf with the paint cap and believe it would match nicely for that as well but I don't intent to paint my hat shelf.

I'm so excited to find this paint that I'm probably going to have to strip and repaint the 63 year old, age cracked original Silver French Grey on my instrument panel.

Excellent find, Bruce!

I found a close match for the dark red instrument panel but I can't remember what it was called, it was a Duplicolor auto touch-up paint I got at an auto supply store. Luckily, I kept the can so I can find it when I go back to Alaska.

Maybe we should convert this thread to paint matches in general.

I understand how a mistake is made by "double-clicking" when the website does not quickly accept a post, and two or more identical msgs are posted in a thread....
But I don't quite understand how the identical msg appears in seperate threads....with different subject-lines.... except by deliberation, and wondering why. (You started drankin', Bruce?)

Because upon submitting the first post the first time I got an honest to goodness system fault error. I did not realize it actually posted. So I retyped the post and submitted it a second time when I got an honest to goodness system fault error. It wasn't until I reset my browser and reentered the forum and posted for the third time that I believed it took. Apparently one of the first attempts made it through. Now you know.

I've now merged both threads.

In a perfect world we would have every post perfectly categorized and cross referenced. There isn't enough time in the day for that. Nearly as good is to use key words in the title and text of the word so a search is likely to result in the thread you are looking for. This is why I used the words Interior - Paint - Color - Silver - French - Gray in both the title and text so a search of any of those words or comination would find it.

Bruce is just attempting to get his "msg-count" up.

Thanks Bruce, changeing the title from "Silver French Gray interior paint match" to "Interior Paint Color for Silver French Gray", is good enough for me.

Revisiting this thread because yesterday I discovered another grey on the inside of my windows that might be Silver French Grey and it is a different darker color grey than my seat frames. Now I'm wondering it this darker color grey is Gull Grey or maybe my seat frames where Gull Grey.

George told me and I suspected that the steel part of the window frame would be painted the interior color. I'd suspect the seat frames would be as well. But I'm wondering now if the window frames or the seat frames might have been painted Gull Grey.

My plane is a 49 but the pattern what was painted what was constant throughout the production though the colors other than Gull Grey changed. So what have others found.

Where my window frames or my seats painted Gull Grey. If not then I have two different color Silver French Grey colors in my airplane.

Wouldn't it be nice to have color codes. But nearly as good would be to do as I did and show what commercial paint ie the Krylon color others have used and found to be a match for the original paint in their plane. I'll report back on what I use to match this new grey later.
