I am looking for information reguarding the instellation of 172 long range fuel tanks in my 1953 170B. Particularly which year 172 tank and do these tanks us the wing root style fuel guage?

First thing you should do is talk to your local FSDO to find out what they're
going to want in the way of approved data for your 337. Most of the copies of 337s done before change 15 may not have enough information.
1963 and pior 172 long range 175 standard, 26 gallon tank will require the removal of the original rib and replacement with a rib form that same station that came form the 175. Some of the early models have the same
fuel gages as the 170. There are a couple of different electric gages that
could be used. Square Cessna type mounted on the instrument panel or
a round gage mounted in the same location as the old ones in the wing root.
Flint makes a 24 gallon STC ed aux tank for the 170 for around $3900. If your in a hurry spend the money. I wanted to replace a my 170s set of wings with C175 wings and get some extra fuel in the process. Eight months and a pound of paper later I had to contract a DER to help with the process. The wings are still in the corner on the hangar. DON"T do anything with out first getting the FAA's blessings.

In case you're interested,there was an "for sale" ad for a Javelin (baggage compartment) 18 gallon aux tank in ther March 2003 Flypaper.Tank,plumbing,pump,switch,gauge,paperwork:$950 OBO.

I have the javelin and I saw the same post. If it's not sold already, I would jump on it. I had a guy offer me $2,000 for mine last year. The javelin tanks seem to be difficult to find.

The close-out rib is removed and a hole is cut in the second rib that is large enough for our tank to slide through. Bad news, about $4000!

I have two fiberglass flint tanks that I took out of my 170B. I would sell for about $100.00 and I think that I have the STC also. I do not have all the hardware to install them but I think I have some hose and guages.
