Well, George, this will either end the discussion or flare it up again, but it looks like McFarlane may have a winner here if it works as advertised.

You could always cut a tennis ball, fill it with silicon sealer, and slip it on.

George, that may work, I was able to put my original large 170 throttle knob on a newer style 1/4" cable.

McFarlane's drawing shows both their standard knob and the round one, but they also have a black knob with the same shape as on the 170 available at a reasonable price. I painted mine to match the original and then clear-coated it.

Thanks Gary, did you use this knob on the cable mentioned above? Looks like that would be a nice combination.

Looks like the shifter knob on my 62 chevrolet K10 pickup.

Karl,
No, I still have it on my original cable which needs to be replaced. The McFarlane throttle looks like a good option, albeit pricey. I see they also have the same deal for the mixture control--again pricey for what it replaces and overkill for leaning on our carbureted engines. I think it would be harder to substitute an original knob onto this one.

Someone should come up with a DIGITAL mixture control so we can be even MORE accurate with our settings.

Speaking of custom throttle knobs--- I knew a guy that had a relatively soft, moulded throttle knob in the shape of a petite, female human breast, about a 30 A size. He said that gripping it tended to sooth him when flying in rough air.

I ordered this adapter from Mcfarlane to make my old knob work on the new throttle.
