Elevator bell crank bracket cracks

Hi
One of my elevator bell crank brackets is cracked PN 0510142.
Is there a reasonably priced part available or do we need to repair it?
I found a link to a thread discussing this problem http://cessna170.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.p ... 17&start=0 but link doesn't work.
(just so you know I searched before asking)
Thanks
Kim

Go to members page and download first quarter 2010 and read Steve Grimsley's (as usual) great article.

Thanks Jim
Where would I look for a serviceable bracket or are we better off to repair what we've got.

Cessna, or Hill Aircraft (cessnaparts.com) has part 0510142 for $340 available. If I could repair for less that is the route I'd take.

A repair will be a challenge, I'm just going to give a bit of an idea as to the difficulties and usual disclaimer, just my opinion, your methods may,... well you know. Here's a pic of a crack that's may be similar to your issue.
The crack has traveled past the rivet hole and standard practice is to stop drill cracks. If there was no crack just a deformed rivet, then you could just replace it. As you can see it would be difficult to up-size the hole if the hole was damaged because of required edge distance to the radius of the bend of the flange. As there's plenty of meat, stop drilling the crack and installing another rivet further down the bracket would work as long as a very clean hole was made and you stop drill didn't carry into the bulkhead. Regardless of the repair, the major obstacle here is access. Here's a doubler (not mine or my work) that although looks crude lasted for at least 20 years.
