Hey Richard,

That was 2006. What empirical data have you got to show after 6 or 7 years? Any leaks? One of the first replies was from Bruce F who warned me not to go the welding route because of the lack of options (like ZERO) after a welding fail. I am worried about the position of the corrosion (very near to the vertical riser for the carb mount) and have doubts that it can be welded successfully; but everyone else swears by DivCo and that they can do it. I like the bolt and plug idea, but again, too close to the vertical riser for comfort. After all the "little things" that I have discovered that have corroded, worn out or are just wrong, I really feel like opening up shop on producing classic aircraft restoration parts. Any investors reading this?

No evidence of failure has been detected with the repair on my oil sump in 6 years. If I had it to do over again, I would send it up to O.A.E. and let them repair it. If they send it back as unrepairable with their process, then I would send it to Divco.

The epoxy repair corrosion-protects the oil sump from further corrosion, just welding does not stop the corrosion, it will come back.

Call O.A.E and ask them how the older repairs are holding up.

If interested, I have a three bolt oil sump with no corrosion and no repairs. I had always assumed the three bolt was for a C-125 engine.

Richard, when you had your sump repaired 6 years ago, do you remember if their charge for repairs varies based on the degree of corrosion or is/was it a flat charge plus shipping? Just curious what the cost might be for those kind of repairs.

I can't remember how they charged, they would have to be called to see what their current repairs would cost. I aslo never saw the finished repair before it was installed, or I would have taken a picture. The engine guy had it buttoned up before I got there but he said it looked good.

I'll call them tomorrow and post any updates for anyone interested. I assume they'll say they can't give a quote without seeing the part _ DivCo said the same. I'd like to get the sump off to one or the other tomorrow, or at least this coming week. I have a bad feeling I'm going to miss a lot of the early spring flying

I completed a overhaul on a 0-300-A with a very bad sump, it was sent to AOE, it came back repaired, and it looked great, and I got the same story that has been posted here. They do have a STC in Canada, but we can get a field approval in the US if the A&P needs one.

the cost was 450.00

YOu are a fantastic resource for the entire aviation community (even though you and I don't always agree on everything...I welcome you to re-join the Association to which you belonged for so long and to which you have contributed so much. Do I need to loan you the first year's dues?)

George I seldom agree with anyone on every thing.

BUT.. the only advantage to joining for me, would be to post pictures here, Yes I know it is a great club, well run, and well worth the money. as long as I'm welcome to stick my $.02 in here I'm good with that for now.

I recently attended an IA renewal seminar in which Loren Lemen gave an interesting talk of what they are doing at Ly-Con in Visalia, CA. He comes there after working for many years as at TCM. I asked him if they could repair O-300 sumps and he said no but what some guys do is paint the inside of the sump with Glyptal. Anybody ever used this paint? I wonder if this is the paint that O.A.E. uses?
