replacing the rudder belcrank

Hello all, I am new to the forum and the association. I am replacing the rudder belcrank on my 54. It is P/N 0433113, # 13 in figure 15 of the IPC. I have a new one with a 8 very small holes in it where 1/8 inch rivets will go. When finished it will have 14, 1/8 inch rivets in it. My concern is the holes already drilled. In order to get it lined up properly, should I enlarge a couple of the holes to 1/8 inch and install the belcrank on the rudder with cleco clamps, then drill the rest of the required holes from the top side through the existing holes in the rudder channel (11) and lower rib assembly (12)? I want to get this right the first time.
Thanks,
Tim

Shouldn't the new part have #40 holes or 3/16ths? and the rudder will have 1/8th holes?

but other than that, I do it the same way.

Line up the hinge holes with the bracket in place, then drill the few holes that are aligned. Disassemble then clean out holes and chips. Reinstall with a few clecos. Drill the rest to match the rudder and rib. Clean all parts at the end and rivet it all together.

Tim,
Welcome to the association and the forum. While you are replacing the belcrank you might add L-19 bumpers to it like George has shown in this thread.

Ok, I went to the hangar today to get started on this and I have a couple more questions.
1. How do you line up the belcrank with the lower hinge bracket as this is on the aircraft. If I install the rudder, I don't think I will be able to get to the top side to put clecos in.
2. It looks like if I have a piece of stock 1/4 inch in diameter, and turn down one end to 3/16 to go into the hole on the belcrank, I should be able to put the stock into the two hinges and the belcrank to line it up.

It looks like the oilite bearing and the bushing (#26 and #27 fig. 25) are going to be replaced also.

Any expert advise would be great.
