Had a talk with an A&P buddy of mine tonight. I've got a brake caliper that needs a little attention. He says he has a kit for the Cleveland brakes with the correct pads and everything else, but the piston "O"Ring. Robbed out he says.. Can he get a universal "O" ring from the local bearing supply house or do we wait out the freight and get one from the aircraft suppliers?
He already has it apart and it looks like the same kind of piston and o rings that I use in my race cars. (sept it is worn flat on one side, Ha!) I had a friend scheduled to take a lesson & fly my plane on Tuesday afternoon. Do I need to say Bummer now!!??

An o-ring of the correct size, made out of the a proper material for the application, is likely available at the local bearing house. Nothing special about the one you have on order except if you ordered the correct part, it will be the correct size and material.

Take the old "O" ring and have the bearing or gasket house match it.

While you have the caliper apart, check the condition of the o-ring contact surface. These things can get small corrosion pits in them over time and can get bad enough that they will leak no matter what. Would be nice to have them machined out and put SS liners in them like they did Corvette calipers.....just thinking outloud.

I've seen Cleveland Calipers lined with SS by a machinist. I have a hunch it might be considerably cheaper than new calipers.

Oh Darn...you mean the stainless liners are not FAA approved? Luckily with teh sequester there will be far less inspectors and mostly with less knowledge so common sense can rule

the "O" ring kits from several places like Harbor Freight are Bun-a-N and will work in the 5606 hydraulic systems.
