Anyone know if this is a good oil to put into an engine that might be setting up for 6 months? Sources? Alternatives?

listened to a talk by a Phillps rep while renewing my IA this week, they sell an anti-rust storage oil also.

he recommended adding 10% of this stuff to your regular oil for storage or infrequent use during periods of up to 3 months, over that change the oil to all antirust stuff.

I've never used it so your mileage may vary

I get back from abroad once a year to fly my aircraft for 6 weeks. I have been using Shell's 2F for 20 years in the Lycoming R680 and 8 years in the IO540 when I prepare them for storage. I used it in the Cessna 170 when I shut it down last summer.
I regularly have an oil analysis and the comment often written is " for an engine that has been inactive for a year this looks good." No sign of rust has showed up in the oil to date.

crwrpmr, where do you purchase your Aeroshell Fluid 2F? Cost? I checked with a distributor where I have often purchased Aeroshell W100 & they don't have it. Tex-Air in Fort Worth, who usually has everything aviation wise, said they haven't carried it in a long time due to lack of calls for it. The only source I found on the internet was Sky Geek in 5 qt containers $9.15/qt + shipping (14#). Spruce is supposed to advise their source & price, but haven't as yet done so.

The 2F is not easy to find. When I flew through Anchorage I would pick up two, 4 quart containers and stock pile them in my hanger. Last year the Shell distributor I use by Niagara Falls, Canada had the product book on the counter and I saw the 2F listed. He was able to order it and it was packaged 4 X 1 gallon containers. Don't recall the exact price but it's rather dear. The box it came in was marked Shell Canada Calgary Alberta so it may have been produced there.
I would think if you could provide your local Shell distributor with the product number he too could order it in. I'll do a search for the number and post if successful.

There is a site called shellaviationstore.com that lists fluid 2F at $42.00 for 5 liters.
