Bruce, are you certain that is the intended purpose for the item you posted?
Those look to be the clips used to secure the false-panel to the instrument panel.

The button-plugs used in to secure the floor inspection hole covers are like small "wilke buttons". I'll try to find a reference for them....

George, I should have said "found in early 170s as those are the planes I am most familier. These buttons were found holding the inspection plates to the floor of 170 and 170A models (I also had a few in my first collection of parts 170). They are part number 49330 stud, tri-mount United Carr. Looking at the B model IPC the part number did change to 49390 stud, tri-mount United Carr so this might be the "wilki plug" type you speak off.

As for the false instrument panel on the 52 and earlier, these are held in place by a mount on the top spot welded to the cover which rest on and captures the top in the inner panel and at the bottom by screws and Tinnerman nuts.

BTW is suppose there were different sizes of these "buttons" and I don't know if the example I linked are the correct size but they look right. I was looking for something else when they caught my eye and I wanted to document the source.

Those panel clips look like the ones used to hold my door panels on.

I bought a bag of these buttons at Oshkosh a couple of years ago. On my plane they are also used to secure the aft cargo divider.
