Equipment Lists (split from Fuel Tank topic)

Post by jatkins »

Hi Kirk,

On a different subject,.... do you happen to have an equipment list for your 58 C-172 ? My brother is in desperate need of one an has
ordered one from Cessna 3 1/2 weeks ago and they say they have it but cannot find it. He needs it to complete his import to Canada, and has been
waiting for a month now.

If you have one ( original copy ) could you possibly please, email it to me ?

Thanks John johnatkins@rogers.com

Just curious, why wouldn't the existing equipment list be sufficient for the import?

Make your own equipment list based upon a current inspection.

Thanks for splitting this off George. I'm just curious why Transport would insist on an original equipment list on a 50+ 172 aircraft or is there something very very exotic in it?

I think maybe they mean original as in not a photo copy? Dunno.

you need it to verify conformity.... it lists required equipment. if you can find a copy of the original Specification that would work too.

the older planes were on Aircraft Specifications, which list all eligible equipment besides that required for certification . later aircraft have a TCDS instead... it's a shorter version of the Spec and lists only the engine, prop, and governor... every other item of equipment is on the equipment list for that particular aircraft (by dash number or serial number). if you have a Spec aircraft, all you need is the Spec.

Cessna (and others) took most of their older Spec aircraft and put them into TCDS format in the late 60s when the TCDS became the norm. the 170 was a Spec aircraft... so was the 172 and the 180. when it was switched Cessna issued a letter that listed all equipment. I have the one for a 180 but don't know if they did the same for the 172... maybe not.

FWIW.. the switch was to save paperwork, because every change to the Spec required a revision to be printed (the days of paper). plus, many STCs were listed on the Spec.... constantly changing.

EDIT: for those that don't know, Airworthiness can be boiled down to two words. Condition and conformity. The aircraft must conform to it's type design... the Spec, TCDS and equipment list are used to verify that, supposedly at every annual. when importing an aircraft, conformity is a biggie.

is it a 172A?

might be able to lay hands on one, but need to know if it is the straight 172 or a -A (too old to be a "B")
