Gascolator

I have a Gascolator on my '48 170 that is in a configuration I have never seen before. The glass bowl is on top rather than bottom as I have seen before. Understand that my experience with gascolators is on other than aircraft so I'm not saying it is wrong, just different. The drain sump is on the bottom where it would be expected. See pictures and advise why the glass bowl is on top.

Same setup as my 1947 120......for what that's worth.

Looks exactly like the drawing in the IPC. Looks good to me.

As long as the standpipe draws carb-fuel from high up in the glass...it should work just the same as the others.
