Avionics shops and Installing Garmin 430W questions

All,

I wish to install a Garmin 430W.

Question (1) - is ~$8,500 a reasonable (good price) for a New 430W what was never used or installed? (2010 and I assume the database needs updating).

Question (2) - I'm in the mid-west and willing to travel. I would like recommendations on avionics shops you have used who know/understand Cessna 170's and are capable to install a 430W.

I am not going to change-out the panel as I wish to retain the classic panel . The 430W will fit next to my right-knee and requires an annunciator, which is okay.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Kings Avionics in Kansas City has installed as many Garmins as any shop around. Call Dave Hayden, the owner, and talk to him about your questions on price and installation, he will give you good answers. He may have a better deal, maybe not. If you don't want to take it to Kings, Dave will probably give suggestions for shops closer to your location. Kings can also do any maintenance on the Garmins. Dave flies a C-185 but don't hold that against him, he uses it as a test bed for many new products to see how they perform in GA airplanes.

Dave and Garry run the shop. I was based at KIXD from March 1981 - June 2006 I know both men, good people. Rusty N2935D
