Shoulder Harness Options?

Are there any shoulder harnesses available for a 170A that don't require you to cut the headliner for the installation? I have flown some 172's that have more of an automotive style harness that I think might work. I really don't want to cut my headliner but I would like some sort of upper body restraint. If anyone has pictures of such an arrangement I would love to see them. Also where to buy.

Thanks, Mike

Just found this.....anyone have any experience with them? If so, did you have to mess with the headliner to install it?

Hi Mike, I have a set in my 49 170A. I chose the Alpha Aviation over the BAS I had used in a 185 and 170B before for the ease of installation. I felt that you would have to remove the head liner to install the attach fittings in the aft spar carry thru for the BAS due to the length way zipper. The Alpha Aviation harnesses require installation of attach fittings at the upper aft corner of the door. You do have to loosen the head liner at the corner of the door though. The only holes you have to make in the head liner are for the attachment of the inertial latching reels. The Alpha Aviation harnesses are also a few hundred dollars less than the BAS. I bought this 170A to fly while working on a 180 project I have, thought they would be fine. The problem I have is with the lap belt latches. The strap from the floor to the buckle is to short, this places the buckle at the corner of the seat cushion where the inboard side meets the top. When you reach down to move or check the fuel selector, if not careful you unbuckle your or the passenger belt when you bring you hand back up between the seats. My 180 will have the BAS harnesses.
