Help with Scott tailwheel

Hey guys,

I am a cub guy (I know, I know) and I ended up with a Scott tailwheel that I was told might only work with a Cessna 170. It's head is a Scott 3450-23 which has a two bolt attachment for a two inch tail spring. It's fork is a 3413 with a eight inch wheel. It won't work for my cub. I did a search and it sounds like it might fit a cessa 170 but I can't confirm that. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.

Thanks

MR

The Cessna 170 uses a Scott 3200 tailwheel. The 3450 is for bigger airplanes.

Here's a link I found on it that might help you.

Thanks David,

That is the post I saw. If you look at the fourth post down on that link one guy had the 3450-23 on his airplane. Sounded like it might be an STC?

Does the 170 have a 2" leaf spring?

No, the 170 has an inch and a half at best. I can't remember the actual width of the spring but it actually needs a spacer to fit the 3200 tailwheel.

I'm not sure about an STC. Maybe someone else will chime in soon.

The 3450 was used as one example of a Piper Pawnee tailwheel. As someone else mentioned they do go to larger tailwheel aircraft.
