Inspection Plate Needed

Gentlemen

I am looking for a replacement inspection plate for my 55' B-Model. I need the 4-screw plate that is on the bottom of the right stab, that allows access to the trim tab mechanism. I'm on the road and don't have access to my parts manual to look up the part number.

Merry Christmas and thanks for the help

Jughead, it would be a pretty simple job to make the inspection plate if you wanted to do so. However, an even easier means would be to call Lucky over at Air Salvage Dallas and see what the cost would be. I am sure he has hundreds of them as he salvages many, many planes. He has acres of wrecked planes. He probably would negotiate a price with you or MIGHT just give you one. Now, whether or not he is going to have exactly what you need since it fits a vintage Cessna, I don't know. Its sure worth a try though and of course there are other aircraft salvage companies located all over the US. Air Salvage is located just south of LNC (Lancaster Airport) and you could fly over and catch a ride down the road if desired. Good luck!

OLE POKEY,

That was my plan, but I'm no longer in TX. Looking for similar facilities here in the PNW.

Richard, Short version: Trip is only 1/2 way complete. WX Abort at Billings, MT. Forecast of 1 day snow evolved into 5 day snow/wind event. I return on the 26th to finish the trip on the 27th. I plan a full trip report when complete.

Jughead, Did you check your CDL* to see if you'll be OK to complete your journey? (or do you need duct tape?)

*(For those not familiar, Jughead is a newly-minted airline pilot who must familiarize himself with a "Conformity Deviation List" which authorizes flight with certain minor components missing from the airframe.)

George

I am familiar with MEL's. I also had some spare high-speed Mach 1 plus tape that I peeled off of my left shoulder that is adequate to ensure birds don't get into the stab while it is on the ground. I'm not worried about it while flying. If these things will fly nicely with doors off and things strapped to them, the last thing I'm worried about is a 3.5" opening at 90KTS. While it may affect the trim tab due to disturbed airflow at TO/Land, I'm very used to flying airplanes that are not trimmed up during that phase and had no ill effects upon landing.

I was only joking, of course, Jughead. I am thoroughly confident in your piloting skills. I'm glad to see the airlines get someone who actually knows how to FLY and not simply push buttons ... (but might feel the urge to jab you about the differences between MELs and CDLs.)

Don't worry George, no offense taken.
