C-145-2 Crankcase Assembly

During the re-assembly of my crankcase IAW the Continental IPC, and OVH manual, everything went as planned, and the halves were put together (Section 12)
Then I got to this point:

Install the four 3/8-inch through bolts through
the bottom of the case. Install lifting eye, spacers,
washers, screws and nuts in 4th and 5th holes from
rear of upper flange. Install other flange screws,
and tighten nuts securely. Install spacers, lockwashers
and nuts on ends of two short front through
bolts, on left end of upper front long through bolt and
on ends of rear through bolts. Tighten bottom through
bolt nuts. Tighten slotted nuts of short tie bolts only,
and install cotter pins •

So,

The IPC shows Fig2. Item 21 special washer, as qty. 3
I have the large spacers on the 7/16 through bolts , as listed above.
I have (2) smaller spacers, which I believe go on the lifting eye, but they have a larger ID than the bolt, and does anyone know where the 3rd special spacer would go? I only have 2 in my possession, and I was meticulous in disassembly, though I didn't take any pictures, :( and my lifting eye has it's bolts with small washers to space it off of the case .
The 2 spacers in question have a ID of the bottom through bolts 3/8.
The word "spacer" as used in the overhaul manual, does not appear in the IPC fig 2 items, so I am trying to determine what "washers" these were and where they go....

Thank you all for any help, and I can send a picture via email if needed.

No offense taken, certainly a good question. I am and A&P/IA, so I am doing the work myself. Most everything was sent out, and exchanged, tested, etc. The cylinders are 8130'd. I appreciate your help. There was also a mention of Item 6 , fig 2 , o-ring , qty.2 that I can't seem to figure out...........

Best Regards,

Rick

I wrote a couple of articles for The 170 News in 2006 documenting the overhaul of my O-300A. I remember there being a through-bolt o-ring or two shown in the IPC that weren't called out in the overhaul manual. I don't remember the details, but they're in the articles (Members Only Page at http://www.cessna170.org). I know several folks that have sent these engines out for overhaul, and evidently the shops followed the book by the letter, and they pumped oil out almost as fast as it could be poured in. :x

Thanks guys. The engine mount leg(s) wasn't removed, so I bet the o-ring is still in there, though I will probably change it. I'll also look at the members only article as I am sure there are some other "tricks and tips' in there.
The superior ovh kit came with all the O-rings for the through bolts, but I haven't found (2) for item 6....

As far as the "spacers" are concerned, I'll keep looking, and hope somebody can sort that out and chime back in. I also believe it may have been a typo as qty.3 , and that they belong with the lifting eye....

My engine leaked at the fwd mounts when I first acquired it (with less than 200 hrs on the engine, as I recall), and I stopped the leak by adding the o-ring and some Permatex #2 to assist it. The pushrod rubbers I fixed with Permatex engine-assembly/gasket-maker RTV (unapproved but it works.)
